Within Horizon Europe, the concept of Missions has been implemented. A mission is a portfolio of actions across disciplines aimed at achieving a bold, inspiring and measurable objective within a set timeframe, with impact for society and policy-making, as well as relevance for a significant part of the European population and a wide range of European citizens.

Eligible actions

In Horizon Europe, the EU will adopt 5 EU missions as a commitment to solve major societal challenges:

  • Adaptation to climate change, including social transformation.
    Cancer
  • Healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters
  • Climate-neutral and smart cities.
  • Soil health and food.

Each EU mission will have a specific timetable and budget depending on the difficulty of the challenge. It will drive innovation in all sectors to deliver effective solutions.
