Elena P\u00e9rez es una profesional con una s\u00f3lida trayectoria en el \u00e1mbito de la investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica, la innovaci\u00f3n y la financiaci\u00f3n europea de proyectos de I+D. Actualmente es Senior Project Manager en Euro-Funding<\/strong>, liderando proyectos en el \u00e1rea de salud, biotecnolog\u00eda y MedTech, donde ayuda a empresas innovadoras a conseguir financiaci\u00f3n p\u00fablica no dilutiva para sus proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n. Adem\u00e1s, ejerce como evaluadora independiente en la red Eureka<\/strong>, aportando su experiencia en la valoraci\u00f3n de iniciativas internacionales de innovaci\u00f3n. Previamente, desarroll\u00f3 su carrera en consultor\u00eda de financiaci\u00f3n europea en IplusF y en el \u00e1mbito acad\u00e9mico como investigadora postdoctoral y predoctoral en instituciones de prestigio como KU Leuven, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Eindhoven University of Technology y la Universidad de Oviedo<\/strong>, centrando su investigaci\u00f3n en biosensores, bioensayos y biotecnolog\u00eda aplicada a la salud. Complementa su experiencia con actividades docentes como Master Lecturer en IED Madrid<\/strong>. HOW CAN THE EIC ACCELERATOR GIVE HEALTH STARTUPS THE BOOST THEY NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE MARKET?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The results of the first European Innovation Council Accelerator cut-off of 2023 are out and they have confirmed an exciting trend with nearly 50% of funded companies and 62% of the overall allocated budget focusing on healthcare innovations. This highlights the interest that this funding program has in driving innovation in the health sector.<\/p>

The\u00a0EIC Accelerator<\/a>\u00a0provides the financial support that health startups need to bring their products to the forefront of the industry. One of the key benefits of the EIC Accelerator is its ability to provide substantial financial support to startups, allowing them to further develop their technologies and products. The programme offers both grants and equity financing, with the potential for funding up to \u20ac17.5 million. This level of financial support is especially useful for startups that may face unique challenges in the market:<\/p>

  1. Carry out clinical trials<\/strong>:<\/span> Health startups often need to conduct clinical trials to prove the safety and efficacy of their products. These trials can be very expensive, particularly if they involve many participants or are conducted over a long period of time. Funding from the EIC Accelerator can help cover the costs of these trials, including subcontracting a CRO.<\/p><\/li>

  2. Navigate the regulatory landscape<\/strong><\/span>: In addition to clinical trials, Health startups must also comply with complex regulations to gain approval for their products. This can involve extensive testing and documentation, which can also be expensive. Funding from the\u00a0EIC Accelerator<\/a>\u00a0can help cover the costs of regulatory compliance, including hiring regulatory experts, conducting additional testing, and preparing and submitting regulatory filings.<\/li>

    65 MILLION TO IMPROVE EFFICACY, SAFETY AND UPTAKE OF THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES TO REFRACTORY CANCERS<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

    The battle against cancer remains a critical area of research in modern medicine and is a top priority for the European Union, with EU\u2019s Horizon Europe Mission for Cancer aiming to save more than three million lives by 2030 and with a focus on improving the quality and duration of cancer patients\u2019 lives.<\/p>

    Thanks to advancements in technology and biology, doctors and scientists have developed new treatments and therapies that have increased survival rates for cancer patients<\/strong>. However, there is still a long way to go in terms of finding a cure, which is why the EIC Accelerator has launched a new challenge in 2023<\/strong>\u00a0to support the development of innovative biomarker-based assays for personalized cancer treatment. The goal of the \u201cNovel biomarker-based assays to guide personalised cancer treatment\u201d challenge is to support health startups working on the development of biomarkers that enable personalized cancer treatment while minimizing adverse effects and improving clinical monitoring.<\/p>

    The EIC has set a budget of \u20ac65M for 2023<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to fund the development of predictive, prognostic, and companion diagnostic assays to guide cancer treatment, which are in the preclinical or clinical phase 1 stage. By supporting these start-ups in their way to the market, the EIC is helping to advance personalised medicine in the field of oncology and bring society closer to finding a cure for this devastating disease.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
